
      The Arc of Nebraska is a statewide association of people with developmental disabilities and their parents, other family members, interested citizens and dedicated human service professionals. These people want to improve the quality of life for all people with developmental disabilities. The Arc began as a parent support group for families. Over the years, parents throughout Nebraska organized similar groups which came together as a state association in 1954.
    The Arc of Nebraska organizes and sponsors many information and education activities, including an annual conference and Senatorial Dinner, Additional training opportunities are developed each year, designed around members current interests. The Arc of Nebraska's Governmental Affairs activities provide advocacy efforts in the legislative arena, working to produce the delivery of high quality supports for people and their families. We are proud of our history in systems advocacy. We were a leader in established community-based services and educational opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
    The Arc of Nebraska has also been active in education and advocacy relative to prevention issues. The Arc of Nebraska is a catalyst to ensure that state-of-the-art services and supports are available to individuals and their families, resulting in communities where all people, with and without disabilities, are recognized for societal contributions they have to offer.
    The Arc of Nebraska is committed to developing leadership skills of parents and self-advocates to promote positive change. The Arc of Nebraska helped develop educational programs and materials to expand knowledge of systems and to generate strategies to work for change within those systems.
    The Arc of Nebraska is committed to helping children and adults with disabilities secure the opportunity to choose and realize their goals of where and how they learn, live, work and play.
